  • Mental Health Practitioner – Supporting Students in Higher Education

    Location: London

    Contract: Full-time, 12 Month FTC

    Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days on campus, 2 days remote)

    Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm

    About the Role

    QA Higher Education is looking for a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our Safeguarding, Student Life & Wellbeing team.

    In this role, you will manage a caseload of students experiencing mental health difficulties and/or disabilities, providing tailored support and therapeutic interventions to help them succeed throughout their academic journey. Working closely with colleagues across wellbeing, disability and student support services, you will play a key role in promoting student mental health, managing risk, and ensuring students can access the support they need both internally and externally.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage a caseload of undergraduate and postgraduate students with mental health needs and disabilities.
    • Deliver focused mental health interventions both in person and remotely.
    • Conduct mental health assessments, provide advice, signposting and referrals.
    • Respond to students experiencing mental health crises, undertaking risk assessments and coordinating appropriate support.
    • Build effective relationships with external services including GPs, NHS mental health teams and social care providers.
    • Support the delivery of welfare services across multiple channels, including on campus, by phone and email.
    • Contribute to wellbeing initiatives, awareness campaigns and staff training programmes.
    • Support the development of policies, procedures and services that enhance the student experience.

    About You

    We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

    Essential

    • Experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs.
    • Experience delivering evidence-based mental health interventions.
    • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent).
    • Evidence of continued professional development within mental health practice.
    • Excellent communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.

    Desirable

    • Experience working within Higher Education.
    • Experience delivering group interventions.
    • Professional registration relevant to the role (NMC or HCPC).
    • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
    • Understanding of supporting disabled students under the Equality Act 2010.
